Description

The Department of Chemical, Biological, and Materials Engineering at the University of South Florida invites applications for multiple tenure-track Assistant Professor positions, expected to commence August 2023 or thereafter. An earned Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field such as Biomedical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering from an accredited institution by the start of employment is required. Candidates should have: (1) a demonstrated excellence in scholarly research and publications, (2) a demonstrated record of or potential for sustaining an externally funded research program, and (3) a strong commitment to and potential for teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds. Applicants with research interests in any area of chemical, biological, and materials engineering will be considered for these positions. The department particularly seeks to strengthen our established research clusters in the areas of polymers and advanced materials, energy and sustainability, reaction engineering and catalysis, biological engineering, and design and control of products and processes. Those with expertise in applying data science and machine learning to these and other chemical and biological engineering areas are also encouraged to apply. Applications from women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged.

The department currently has 14 full-time faculty, 1 professor of practice, 1 professor of instruction, and 2 active emeriti faculty. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering and in conjunction with the College of Engineering offers an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering. In addition to strong collaborations with colleagues from across the College of Engineering, faculty members in the department enjoy strong collaborations with a number of research centers on campus (e.g., the Clean Energy Research Center, the Institute of Applied Engineering, and the Nanotechnology Research and Education Center). Faculty members in the department also have collaborations with the extensive medical enterprise at USF including the USF Morsani College of Medicine, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute (an NCIDesignated Comprehensive Cancer Center), the Center for Assistive Rehabilitation Robotics and Technologies, the USF Heart Institute, and the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute. Detailed information about the department can be found at http://chbme.eng.usf.edu.

Applicants must submit a detailed curriculum vitae and names of at least four professional references. In addition, the application should include a statement of the applicant’s teaching plans, and a detailed statement of the applicant’s research plans. Aligned with USF Principles of Community, preference will be given to applicants with commitment to teaching and mentoring students in their research groups from all backgrounds. Applicants are welcomed to include an optional expected contributions to broadening participation in engineering (BPE) statement that outlines examples of their commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, as well as how they will contribute to an inclusive environment as part of their teaching, research, and service.

Applicants must submit their application electronically with all supporting documents as one file directly online to
